Frequently Asked Questions

How long do sessions last?
Sessions last 50 minutes to 1 hour.
How frequently would I attend sessions?
Sessions are weekly.
What is your availability?
I currently offer sessions on Mondays and Fridays. I am looking to increase this soon.
Are your sessions face to face or online?
I offer both face to face or online sessions. For face to face sessions I use rooms at Therapy Rooms, 23 Cheapside, Wakefield WF2 2TF.
How many sessions will I need?
This is dependent on your therapy goals and individual needs. However, as a general guide, clients usually need 8-12 therapy sessions for problems such as generalised anxiety, social phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder. Treatment for trauma or more complex and long standing problems often requires more sessions. I will be able to give you a better idea when I do an initial consultation with you.
What are your fees?
For individual therapy the fees are:
10 minute initial phone consultation - free
CBT/EMDR - £65 a session
Payment is taken in advance of sessions via bacs transfer. If you cancel at short notice I will still need to charge the session fee to cover my costs.
What if I get very upset during a session?
Sometimes, you may become emotional during sessions. This is completely normal and natural. It is often an indication of something that is important to you that has come up in therapy, or that you are releasing feelings. Emotion is an important part of therapy. Whatever you need, its ok. Equally, some people don’t show a lot of emotion, and that’s ok too.
Do you provide medication?
I do not provide medication. I would refer you to your GP for guidance on this.
Are there conditions that you do not treat?
I do not treat serious mental health conditions such as:
Bi polar disorder
Schizophrenia
Psychosis
This is because these conditions require long term, multidisciplinary approach. If you feel you are experiencing any of these problems I would refer you to your GP.
I am also unable to accept clients with serious drug and alcohol use problems. I would refer you to your GP for guidance on who to contact for help with this.
What do I do if I feel at risk?
If you need urgent support due to thoughts of self harm or suicide, please contact your GP, Samaritans (116123) or NHS 111 Urgently. I am unable to provide a crisis service.
I can’t afford the fees
Free therapy is available through the NHS. The provider will depend on the location of your GP. For Wakefield (including Pontefract and Castleford) based GPs, you can self refer to Turning Point Talking Therapies on their website https://talking.turning-point.co.uk/wakefield/
Alternatively you can contact your GP for advice.
What ages do you treat?
My experience is mainly with adults aged 18 and over. I have treated 16-18 year olds as well. I do not treat under 16’s currently.
